We get questions all the time about our services, so here is a list of popular questions and answers about what we do:
Q: What is your level of experience?
Daniel has over six years of experience as a wedding and portrait photographer. He started in the early 1990s as a photography assistant at a commercial studio in Yaletown. He has degrees in Communication and Interactive Arts and has formal education in photography. He is also a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) and continues to attend workshops and seminars to keep his skills current.
Q: How do you define your style?
Daniel’s style can be characterized as a blend of photojournalism and editorial photography with influences from fine art.
Q: What type of camera do you use?
A: We use digital cameras and high quality lenses designed for professional use and also bring along back-up cameras just in case.
Q: How many wedding photographers can I expect to cover my wedding?
A: The number varies depending on the length of coverage, but for most weddings you can expect to have one primary photographer and at least one additional photographer to cover your wedding. You also have the option of adding additional photographers if you are having a large wedding.
Q: Do you include the digital files?
A: Yes, we offer a digital archive for you to keep.
Q: Do you allow your clients to make their own prints?
A: The short answer is YES.
The long answer is: The digital files we provide are mainly for archival purposes, but they are also fully printable. However, we highly recommend taking important photographs to a dedicated professional lab to have prints made or even better, ask us to do it for you and the print quality will be guaranteed to be top notch! We can also mount and frame your prints for you and offer a number of options for you to choose from.
Also we recommend making at least 3 back-ups of any digital negatives that you do receive from us. All digital media has a limited life-span and it is possible that digital data loss could start to occur after a few years.
Q: What is the cost for a wedding commission?
A: We’ve done many weddings over the years and we’ve found that most of our clients spend anywhere between $2000 – $5000 on their wedding photography. However, every wedding is different, so we would definitely like to talk to you about your photography needs and help put together something that fits your needs and budget.
Q: Do you know of any good places to take photographs of us and our wedding party?
A: Absolutely! We scout out locations in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley regularly and can suggest locations based on your particular requirements and constraints. We’d be happy to suggest locations if you decide to book with us.
Q: Are there any travel costs I need to be aware of on my wedding day?
A: Local travel within Metro Vancouver is included. Any travel outside this area will be charged a fee to take care of travel costs.
Q: A friend (or family member) of ours is a photographer and would also like to photograph our wedding, would you mind?
A: To do our jobs to the best of our ability, we ask that you allow us exclusive access on your wedding day. The moments we capture on your wedding day happen in a blink of an eye and can never be repeated, so having other photographers trying to capture the same moments will often result in lost opportunities for creating those special once in a lifetime photographs of you. Friends and family are welcome to take candid photographs from time to time, as we expect that they will. However, to produce the best photographs for you, we ask for exclusivity.
Q: How long does it take to get my photographs?
A: You’ll begin to see your photographs within days of your event or portrait session. We’re committed to showing you your photos as quickly as possible, so all your photos will be ready for viewing in your gallery within about 4 – 6 weeks.
Q: How do I go about making a booking?
A: We recommend having an in-person consultation with us first. If you decide to book with us, we’ll need to complete a booking form and take care of the retainer payment. All consultations and visits are by appointment in Vancouver. Please contact Daniel at daniel [at] dsolei.com or call 604-805-1828 to schedule an appointment.
